Patricia Terry - Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist in Esher & Kingston upon Thames, Surrey

My profile

Prior to becoming a counsellor and psychotherapist I worked in commerce and the public sector, and I hold an MSc from Cass Business School - City of London. One of my key interest areas was the issue of how organisations achieve change, particularly the psychology of change and how people adapt (or don't, possibly!) to the constantly changing challenges and pressures facing modern corporations.

Later I developed my clinical interest in psychotherapy, while retaining the desire to help people deal with the difficulties and crises that affect their relationships and well-being.

I trained at the Metanoia Institute and the University of East London, and I hold a Diploma and MA in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a fully qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist, accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I am bound by the BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I am a Certified Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), the psychological approach to excellence and the achievement of success, which is used extensively in the business world. When appropriate, I integrate NLP into my practice: people often find the coaching and personal development techniques useful when developing strategies to help them move forward beyond therapy.

Alongside my practice I work for Relate, counselling both individuals and couples. For over ten years I have also worked for a local charity offering long-term therapy to women, especially those who have experienced abuse.

People most typically consult me about coping with a difficulty or crisis; relationship difficulties; emotional, physical and sexual abuse; loss or bereavement; anxiety and stress; low self-esteem and lack of confidence; achieving their full potential and other personal development issues.
